Given as a gift for granddaughter. She enjoys the game and finds it exciting and stimulating.
1 Stars DO NOT BUY UNLESS WILLING TO HAVE NO FUN AND BREAK YOUR ARMS!!
OK, this game is awful!!! The major problem is that the controls are suckish! Tap A and B repeatdly KILLS your hand and arm. Plus, they don’t know how to explain things, even in the manual!! The graphics are okay… They exclude many sports, like BASKETBALL!!!!! Please do not buy this game, it is awful!! Rather than wasting your money on an AWFUL game, preorder Madden ‘09, or NCAA Football ‘09. Take my word for it. The worst part is that you really want to like it, because it is the olympics. Make sure, if you really have to try it, to get the warranty. You’ll use it within 12hrs-72hrs max.
2 Stars Horrible controls
Pros
1. Gymnastics, Weightlifting, Swimming/Diving and tons of other disciplines.
Cons
1. Everything consist of frantically alternating the A&B buttons or using literally my whole palm to “wave” the sticks back and forth on the Track competitions. I have to position the controller in rediculous ways just to do all of this.
2. Most of the sports are extremely hard and the graphics aren’t great.
If you like extremely hard games and trying to break world records while you break your controller and hand in the process, then I guess it’s worth the purchase.
3 Stars Beijing Olympic games 2008
I bought the game for my son. He liked it but he said it was hard to make the player do what he wanted.
1 Stars A horrible game a waste of money
For some reason this is one of the hardest olympic games I have ever played. At least with Sydney 2000 for the N64 if we button mash we destroyed the field or the Track and Field for NES we can use a turbo button. Those games were at least somewhat fun and addicting.
Anyways I found this game difficult on some of the events which will be explained later, I have not played most of the events, but I heard kayaking and cycling was a pain. On the sprinting events such as swimming and track, I found it easier just to use the toggle sticks instead of alternating between A and B. Once you get the hang of the start which took me about 2 hours, it was fun, but you have to count to 6 which worked for me.
The 800m and 1500m do require some button mashing, but it is not intense and you can take it easy. I found those events easy to learn within due time.
I found Table Tennis a pain because you can not move the guy like you are suppose to, but I have the Table Tennis for Rockstar and that is like 10 times better. Judo really sucks, I do not have any clue of how beat my opponent after an hour of wasted time. Hmm Archery was actually easy and I had fun with that event, I actually got bulleyes on my first try. Clay pigeon shooting or the fast draw shooting was hard to understand.
Overall after playing the game for a total of 8 hours of wasted time, the game really is not good. I feel like just selling it on ebay for the most part. My arms really hurt and my fingers have blisters after playing the game. the only thing I can say about the game is the graphics are great, but you do not have time to enjoy them since you are busy looking at the controller button mashing or closing your eyes wondering when the suffering is going to stop.
