4 Stars Greater character development than the first.
I’m a sucker for a good story, and gears 2 is a vast improvement on the first. The characters actually take on more personality in this installment and you learn a lot more. The story takes some twists and turns and you almost feel like you’re watching a movie. At the time of this review, XBox Live play needs a lot of work. Matchmaking just isn’t working. I tried to connect yesterday and it sat there for 15 minutes and never found a match. But when you do actually get to play, there’s a great variety of multiplayer options available.

The game was good for me but im still not a fan of the online gaming of gears of war call me crazy but i don’t like it.
5 Stars Sequels really do get better
Games seem to be one of the few media that actually get better with sequels. There are some stinkers out there, to be sure, but games like GoW2 improve on the original so much, I dont know where there is to go for GoW3.
For starters, these are some of, if not THE, finest graphics I’ve ever seen. The shading and rendering and texturing of brick, metal, shadows….basically everything in the world has a photorealistic look to it, in full 3-dimensions, moving at a fast pace. Maybe its because I grew up with a Commodore 64 and Atari 2600 as a starting point that I am in such awe of the look of this game, but its also the atomosphere it portrays, and the rain, rust, and decay conveyed in the graphics really install the sense of dread that the subject matter of the game is all about.
The gameplay is great, and just when you think things can’t get any larger-scale or epic…boom, you are flying a reaver. Like a good movie, this game has favorite scenes which I no doubt intend on revisiting again soon.
I beat this on Hardcore quickly, but not so quickly that I didnt feel it to be challenging.
Lastly, the characters are some of the most well written in any game I’ve seen, funny, dark, and genuine. These guys stick with you, and so does this game, and the overall experience does what every great franchise game is supposed to: begin to build and create frenzied mania for the next installment!
5 Stars Hands down awesomerest!!!
If you like games, BUY THIS ONE. For starters, it’s a game, just like it states. It delivers gamey goodness on levels I’ve never thought possible.
The first game? Awesome.
This game? Beyond awesome. What’s the word for better than awesome? awesomerest!!
Online horde is the most fun I’ve had since Command & Conquer and Diablo from over a decade ago when computers couldn’t even stream porn.
The only disappointment… at least for others… is the ending is kind of anticlimactic. How so? If you played GoW1 you know the final “boss” was pretty darned tough. The last thing you beat in Gears2 is relatively easy. The boss before that is tough, but nothing close to the first game’s.
There are also a few old characters that could have made it into this one like the Berserkers.
None of that necessarily makes the game any less awesomerest. Just things that could have done that would have added to it.
It’s not a question of “should” you buy it… it’s a question of “why HAVEN’T you bought it”.
3 Stars Made in Mexico?
This game says Made in Mexico and is the only game that won’t play in the XBOX. It stops about after 15 minutes and says “CD not readable”. I’m still waiting for another one to arrive (late do to weather) but I’m afraid this one will be the same problem. I need to return the game.
