5 Stars Triton headset
This is an awesome product. Shipping was quick and everything is what we expected.

2 Stars Total Crap…
A good surround sound system will cost well over 1000$…Not willing to spend so much I decided to go for a high end Surround sound headphones.

Wanted to use this predominantly for gaming with my PS3

Picked this beast from Fry’s Yesterday and returned it today..

To begin with, the setup is cumbersome..you have two power connectors (one to the base and one to the headphone).1 USB cable running from the PS3 to the base and an optical connection from the PS3 to base….I wasn’t really lazy to do all this..My thought was since the connections are complex, the sound would be super good…But what a dissappointment…The headphones are super heavy to wear and the surround sound from it is not all that astounding to warrant all those complex connections and stuff…Why don’t Tritton just provide prebuilt profiles rather than asking users to setup the way they want ,which by the way is not easy at all if you are not an audiophile…

I really do not understand when some of the other users say it produces incredible sound….

This is a horrible product…I will not recommend this to anyone….

5 Stars Great for gamers
I have owned these for about a month now and im overall pleased,i use them on my ps3 for metal gear wich these excel on vs my surround system. killzone 2 wich there good on too.

JUST WANT TO POINT OUT ONE THING BEFORE YOU READ. COMPARED TO OTHER REVIEWS MINE SET OF AXPRO ARE UPDATED WITH FLEXIBLE MIC AND ONLY 1 AC ADAPTER THE POWERS BOTH THE DOLBY DIGITAL BOX AND HEAD SET. SO 1 LESS CORD

Pros-

Great directional sound, cumfy ear peices, solid construction, wont fall apart easily. great control for drc and seperat channel volume. even a mic volume too. flexible mic for getting it right where u want it or moving it to drink some soda lol. good fit and good manual. Easy setup even with all the wires. long cord so you arent glued right infront of the tv,Great for people who dont live by them selves and want to hear the game or movie how it was measnt to be heard without waking up or pissing off anybody in youre house. If youre a parent and get tired of hearing explosions and guns echoing through the house these will be great for the kids and for you lol.

Cons-

My gf hates them cuz i cant hear her when im wearing them. A little pricy but im my opinion worth it cuz a good surround system will cost more, optical cable that comes with it has to go and dont replace it with another 1 cent amazon optical cord. get a good thick optical cord thats dolby digital certified and these will rock.

1 Stars Please look elsewhere…and I know where
If anyone has bought these things for your PS3 please find a way to send them back!

I finally got my hands on a pair of Turtle Beach Earforce P21’s and they are for the PS3! these things are amazing! i can’t begin to tell you the sound that comes out of these monsters! All pros NO cons! The one thing you’ll notice off the batt is the fit, they designed them so amazing that the comfort level is off the charts! And the sound?…the sound?…I heard things in COD:World at War that I never heard with my expensive surround sound set-up! And to hear everything that’s being said during Ncaa Football 10 is amazing!

So please dont waste money on this headset, trust me and buy the Earforce P21s.

2 Stars Very delicate. Not for the heavy user
I use headphones on a daily basis on my computer. Both for gaming and watching movies.

At first I was really impressed with the sound quality and indeed it is pretty nice. However, the plastic it is made from is poor and can’t take a heavy user.

Two months is all it took to break apart. First it was the “detachable” microphone. I would only leave it on for games, then take it off when watching movies. After a few weeks, the plastic that twists to hold it broke off. I could still use it, though, if I simply pushed the mic in, rather than twist it.

The problem came with the rotating ear muffs. The right and left speakers are connected through an inner cable that goes through the axis of the rotating muff. This axis is poorly protected and eventually, after a two months of daily use, it chewed on the cables, killing the right speakers.

Finally, the two power adapter thing is cumbersome.

I recommend getting the Logitech G35 7.1-Channel Surround Sound Headset. It’s 7.1. (rather than 5.1) and much much cheaper.

Battlestations: Midway in direct command of multiple warships, planes and submarines in this epic solo and online tactical action game. The game follows the story of naval recruit Henry Walker, whose first assignment as a gunner at Pearl Harbor is the starting point of an incredible career at the heart of the US Pacific Fleet in 1942, in what was to become one of the most inspirational military campaigns in history. Play 11 campaign missions, 12 bonus challenges, plus naval training academy in an immersive storyline

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Good idea, not well implemented
I’m into turn-based strategy games like Civilization, Axis & Allies, and Chess. Real time strategy games like Warcraft tend to overwhelm me with micromanagement. Battlestations Midway is real time strategy, but most of the game involves the management of fairly slow naval units, so I thought I could handle it.

Everything was going fine for the first few hours. Compelling story, nice graphics, I felt like I was learning quite a bit about the Japanese and US Pacific Fleets in 1942, until I hit a mission in which I took control of the USS Lexington, an aircraft carrier. Turns out that if you give multiple aircraft squadrons orders to land at the same time, none of them land, they just circle the carrier. By the time I figured out how to remedy the situation, the Lexington was on her way to the murky depths. Not fun.

5 Stars This game is AWESOME!
I bought this game for cheap on eBay…and wasn’t expecting much. It looked like a 90’s computer game, but I decided to give it a chance since was for the XBOX 360. I got so much more than I bargained for! This game is extremely realistic - all the way down to controlling how the crew attends to damage control. I’m very impressed with the realism and how fun it is to control the navy ships.

5 Stars Another stacked game in favor of the game
I’m really sick of these games that seem to be made by people that don’t want you to win. I mean c’mon, I’ve been playing some of these scenarios for 6 mos or more without even coming close to victory. What the heck are they afraid of , ease up on the difficulty people. If you want a game that some things you win, and others just forget it, this is for you.

4 Stars Really enjoy it - definitely recommend it
This is a really fun game; challenging but not too difficult to learn. I would definitely recommend it.

1 Stars the actions on carrier commands for aircraft are screwed up and balleship cannot be sunk .
The commands to the carrier aircraft do not do as tutorial explain. The planes only fly aruond in circles. With only your hands on control of the aircraft can the battleship be attacked. Plus no heavy damage is ever done to the battleship.

Lord Of The Rings: Battle For Middle-Earth II allows you to continue the adventure as you battle the forces of Mordor. Wage war in the North and assume command of the most storied civilizations in all of Middle-Earth history: The Elven and Dwarven armies. You can also choose to fight on the side of Evil with heroes and creatures that have never been seen in The Lord of the Rings films. Defend or overtake never before seen lands such as Dol Guldur, The Misty Mountains, and Mirkwood as you unleash powerful new weapons and abilities - summon dragons, cause volcanoes to erupt, or bring down a cataclysmic lightning strike. Create your own hero with in-game avatars & customized RTS units

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Good vs evil
This is a great game, at least for those that enjoy RTSs. (Real, Time, Strategies) This is also the first RTS any company did that didn’t suck. The controls take some getting used to, but they actually work for the console. You get to choose from either the “good” campaign, or the “evil” campaign. Allowing for fun on either side of the spectrum. As far as the tactics goes, it’s the usual have these troops, or these troops attack those points, but it is made a little more in depth with what the good people can do, and what the bad people can do. The good people are able to create walls, and equipment for those wall. I.e. trebuchets, archer towers etc… The bad people are able to make tunnels. Allowing them to more quickly go from point A to point B much faster then the good guys. Add in the “heroes” on each side, and the special “magic” each side has and you’ve got a game worth the price payed.

3 Stars Great game Bad translation
I have played this game on the PC before i bought it for the XBox360, and i must say i am dissapointed at the translation from PC to console. the interface prior to starting the game is “whack”, hard to tell which race or team you pick if you are not 100% into the LotR series i guess. only supports 4 teams on Console Versus 8 on PC which takes the epic battle you would expect to a lower level. the game is not bad at all, just dissappointed a bit at how easy they seemed to have made it on themselves to put it on consoles. tiny bit of lag when you first start the actual game but graphically exceptional quality. i would recommend this game if you have not played the PC version of it.

1 Stars Lord of the rings xbox game
[...].

The game itself is not fun at all, I expected it to be similar to the PS2 lord of the rings games…..not at all. Not worth the money.

4 Stars Best RTS for the XBox 360
This is a great RTS - and almost as good as the PC version. The battles look and sound really great in Hi-Def on the big screen.

5 Stars Husband and son both enjoy
Both avid gamers, they both enjoyed this game. When I buy a game and then either one plays every night and they talk strategy at dinner, I know it’s one they really like.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles is the official expansion for Oblivion-the 2006 RPG and Game of the Year. It features more than 30 hours of new gameplay as you are sent to explore an entirely new plane of Oblivion- the realm of Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of Madness. Shivering Isles adds to the existing world of Oblivion, so you can continue playing with your existing save game/character or, create all new character just to explore the new content in Shivering Isles. New creatures, weapons, armor, ingredients, branching questlines and more await in the land of Mania and Dementia.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars A good expansion back
I loved oblivion besides everything bad about it so I had to get the expansion. The world created is beautiful like always. This expansion will add a pleasurable experience that you will remember.

5 Stars Sheogorath is hilarious!
The Shivering Isles creates a new world for you to explore, with new monsters, new ingredients to try out at alchemy, a schizophrenic world to explore, and as part of the storyline you’ll get a cool two-in-one sword, the Dawnfang/Duskfang. Plus the character of Sheogorath, the Prince of the realm, is what was missing in Oblivion proper: a fun and engaging NPC with bucketloads of personality! The only NPC worth mentioning in Oblivion was the emperor (Patrick Stewart); all the other NPCs were flat and boring. Bethesda apparently read my mind and crafted a delightfully deranged character with the accent to match.

And the whole ironic storyline, in which you fight to defend madness against the encroaching forces of order, is wonderfully and hilariously sarcastic. I have to admit, after playing Oblivion for 200 plus hours, the game was starting to feel stagnant, and installing this expansion pack was the perfect swift kick to my rear end that I needed.

Bethesda has also done a great job designing the look of the environment itself; when you’re in the Mania half of the world, the environment is full of splashy, vibrant colors, like you’re high or something (is it a coincidence there are so many mushrooms around?). And in Dementia, the world is appropriately bleak, with nothing but browns and grays and blacks, with dead, twisted trees and swamps. It reminded me of being in an asylum or something (well, an outdoor asylum).

The Shivering Isles is a great expansion to a great game. Definitely worth your money.

4 Stars An occasionally annoying distraction from the main game
I got this expansion as part of the Game of the Year edition of Oblivion. I was highly skeptical of what I saw as basically a completely different reality world opposite of Cyrodill, and as such I put it off for maybe a year before deciding to enter with my new character.

Please note that I am an obsessive-compulsive person, with a sick need for organization, decisiveness, and something else I forgot.

As such, imagine how horribly I’d be set off upon discovering that you can apparently enter NOT two different worlds, but two different versions of the SAME world; Mania and Dementia. This set me off big-time because you can pretty much only enter it once, unless you want to fast-travel back to the gate just to re-enter. What makes it worse is that I see absolutely no difference between the two upon entering, making me wonder what the hell is the purpose of lying to us by making it seem like two separate worlds, when really the northern part is all Mania, and the southern part is all Dementia.

While it was a novel idea to have everyone be either arrogant or insane, but this idea’s brilliance never left the paper it was written on as everyone, as in the base game, is STILL only voiced by the same three or four voice actors, all doing as spectacularly lazy a job as they did in the base game. So instead of hearing something that brings memories of Heath Ledger’s Joker or Jack Nicholson’s Jack Torrance, you get a decidedly lazy-sounding voice actor reading gibbering nonsense off a script with only a slight hint of understanding that they are supposed to be playing a crazy person, and not just recording Line 4,056 out of 11,100.

That slight hint immediately gets vanquished if you have the Game of the Year edition, or the other expansion pack, and you ask them about Anvil, in which they suddenly go from insane to sane, to repeat to you the same pre-recorded line about hearing about the butcher of the Anvil priests and the prophet of doom—despite the realm of the Shivering Isles being like a completely different dimension from Cyrodill, where people supposedly never really venture out, and very few Cyrodill people venture in.

Then the Prince of the realm, despite the energy and enthusiasm of his voice actor, was very poorly written. He immediately starts at a level of “I’M CRAZY YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA~!” and never once comes down from that level of such upfront and bluntly beating-over-the-head “weirdness” that he never once comes off as crazy, but just as someone trying much too hard to seem crazy, and utterly failing to elicit more than just a “well, he’s weird” reaction. Subtlty is completely ejected from this role, as clearly whoever wrote the character did absolutely no research on mental illnesses, and never saw movies like “The Shining” or “One Flew Over the Cookoo’s Nest” or “12 Monkeys”. They just went straight for shock value, and as many references to playing with the player’s intestines as possible.

The world itself looks new and original and weird, but the Dementia part, once you get past the giant mushrooms and craggly trees, you realize it looks like a putrid dump. The city of Crucible can best be described as “rotting garbage crafted into shapes”, as everything is a shade of gray and garbage-green as to be more at home in Fallout 3 (also by Bethesda) or a Russian warzone in Call of Duty 4. It’s such an unpleasant appearance that it nearly drove me mad for a few minutes.

The Duchess of Dementia made me do a quest called “Conspiracy” in which I had to torture random denizens of Crucible to find evidence of a fake conspiracy because she’s a paranoid idiot who becomes sane long enough to tell me I should visit Anvil for more information on the Prophet. I spent an entire in-game day hunting down people and torturing them numerous times just to get somethign other than “I don’t know anything!” and I grew so utterly insane I began torturing people endlessly for no reason other than I began to hate all of them with their stiff, poorly-acted voices, and I became immensely angry upon discovering (with the help of an online walkthrough) that the very first person I had tortured (and apparently let off too early) was the only one who could advance the quest by giving me some information.

I lost it, broke into houses, stole stuff, beat people up on the streets, killed several guards, and eventually died and had to re-load to my last save.

On the other spectrum, Bliss is much more pleasant, and Mania has pretty fireflies that drop sprinkly lights from them as they fly, and not all the people are piss-poor caricatures of insanity.

On the whole, the expansion pack is little more than more of the same as you get in the main game’s quests, with the only real “new” things being new enemies, new weapons/armor/items, and a new landscape. Everything else is pretty much exactly the same.

Worth 30 more hours for 30 dollars? No. Though definitely worth picking up free when included with the Game of the Year edition of Oblivion.

4 Stars Great add on to the game
I recommend this game as an add on to Oblivion. Takes a bit longer to load every game now due to the add on but that is minor compared to the game time it takes to play the complete game.

5 Stars This is a great add-on to Oblivion
The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion is my favorite game, and The Shivering Isles add-on is a must have to add additional quests and content. I would highly recommend this add-on for game enthusiasts. Another great add-on for this game is Knights of the Nine.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great for family game night
My family recently had the opportunity to try Trivial Pursuit on the Xbox 360. This game is AMAZING and really is hours of fun. It’s great that our entire family could all sit down together to play this. Ofcourse my husband and 17 year old daughter took the wins every time. They are super science and history buffs. The graphics were great and you have to be quick on your feet with some of the challenges. My daughters played this one night for almost two hours. I loved that they were able to find something that they both loved that was also educational. Our favorite game mode is the Facts & Friends. Another great part of this that we love is that you can also play Live with this game. So you can play anyone, anywhere, anytime.

2 Stars Disappointed
Well, I was really looking forward to this game and hoping it would revive the Trivial Pursuit popularity as it was in the 1990’s. Unfortunately, this version is not it (perhaps a later version will be?). The package is misleading as it is not xbox live compatible - you cannot play others on-line - which to me renders it basically useless. They over did the voice over announcer on this game. I always keep the volume down as it is ReaLLy irritating. Other than that, it is ok, educational and all. The long game CaN be rEally long. I like that the individual game can be “won” in several different ways (versus the clock, getting so many points per category before clearing the board, etc.). I happen to have gotten a defective game as it has “frozen” several times. So, this one is getting returned. I may wait and see if they improve it (on-line playable) before I purchase it again.

3 Stars Excellent game, but very content-starved.
At its core, this is a great game for the trivia buff. But its content really needs work.

The graphics are great for what it is (this is a jazzed-up board game, kids, not Halo.) The gameplay - visuals, pace, control - is truly excellent and well-thought-out. The designers did a fantastic job bringing Trivial Pursuit into the video gaming world.

My primary complaint is the quality and quantity of content. Perhaps I’ve been “spoiled” by the excellent and voluminous questions of the classic TP board games of yesteryear, but this was quite disappointing. Don’t get me wrong - there are many excellent questions - however, several are miscategorized (asking me about crab soup ingredients in ‘Geography’ - really, guys?) And (as shipped) the game has nowhere near enough questions to sustain any long-term engagement. To illustrate: we (two people) have only had the game two days, played perhaps four or five games total, and have seen 15 or 20 questions twice. That would never happen with a real TP card set.

The good news is that these content issues can be easily remedied with additional question pack downloads and updates from EA - but, as of this writing, the pickings are very slim.

Also, the geography “map” feature could be improved. When the player is selecting his/her answer on the map, the name of the answer being “hovered” over is not shown. Perhaps this is just to make it more challenging, which is fine, but it’s inconsistent with the rest of the game, which lets you see the name of your answer before you lock it in.

Oh, and the idiotic guy talking in the background who says several dumb things to you every single turn? Truly maddening. Who thought he was a good idea? You will want to punch him in the face within the first minute. Thank Heavens you can turn him off (options - voice volume - 0).

And while it doesn’t mean much to me, adding support for online play would be excellent.

Overall, it’s a very good game. But, if you’re going to play it with any regularity, buy it only if you’re optimistic there will be more content available to download in the future (I expect there will, but who knows.)

4 Stars Underrated
Great version of Trivial Pursuit and the new Facts & Friends mode is a fun/interesting way to play and will probably be the favorite mode of many players.

A few reviews have been far too harsh over the Geography questions and lack of online play. The Geography complaints are based on questions that ask you where something happen before presenting a map and having you select the area on the map that corresponds to your answer. This is tough as there are no boundaries on the maps and they zoom in to an extent that makes it even worse.

Online play means nothing to me since I refuse to pay for XBOX LIVE and would rather play games against opponents in the same room with me. I save my online contests for PC games.

Bottom line … I didn’t let the geography complaints steer me away and I’m glad (and I’m horrible at geography).

3 Stars Lack of online play really hurts what should have been a great party game
I’ve complained nearly since the release of the Xbox 360 that there are no good trivia games for the system. I had purchased and quite enjoyed the original Trivia Pursuit: Unhinged game for the older (original) Xbox system. It was great fun to play, but unfortunately the terribly inadequate backwards compatibility mode for the Xbox 360 didn’t include support for that game until several years after the release of that system. Nearly as bad was that once the Xbox 360 came to market the chances of seeing downloadable content and update for the old Unhinged game was pretty much gone.

In the years since there have been a couple of trivia games released on the Xbox 360 (and/or on Xbox Live), but still nothing quite as fun as the heyday of NTN (National Trivia Night, or whatever it was called…), or my more favored You Don’t Know Jack series.

Xbox Live should be a natural for a good trivia game. After all voice support is built in and the game matching system in Xbox Live is second to none. Yes, I know that the Playstation Network is available for Playstation 3 owners (I have one of those too) and it’s completely free. PSN is not bad, and would also be a nice venue for playing a good trivia game though PS3 owners aren’t guaranteed to have a microphone so I rank it a little below Xbox Live in the usability area.

Regardless, the question here is whether or not Electronic Arts’ Trivial Pursuit game is worth the purchase and in answer to that question I must say the answer is a mere maybe. The game itself isn’t bad, but being stuck with local only (as in only local to your own console) gameplay really limits the game much more than it should. The game is fun for a single player but the fun will wear down quickly. For multiple players (family, friends, etc.) its ok as well but in reality the best entertainment for these kinds of games come when you can be completely competitive without really worrying about hurting the feelings of someone close to you. (Which is why being able to play over Xbox Live or the PSN would be so essential).

The discount price may entice some purchases, and certainly there is entertainment value to be had here, the question is whether or not you’ll really be happy after the purchase? Certainly the ability to download content to add to the game helps keep the game fresh over time, but will such content continue to be forthcoming if the game doesn’t sell as well as the publishers hoped? That remains to be seen.

4 Stars Enjoyment will be (mostly) proportional to nostalgia
This is a game from the bygone era of arcades. It’s graphically flashy (circa 1989), totally rad (circa 1989), and designed to eat quarters ($59.99 is the new 25 cents). This is from the time when playing video games meant you would die, repeatedly, and only quarters could bring you back to life. For $5, you don’t have to worry about quarters anymore, which isn’t all that bad a deal.

Enjoyment is going to be (mostly) proportional to nostalgia, so if you don’t remember this game there is probably no point in picking it up now, unless you demand to play every beat ‘em up in the history of gaming. It’s a good beat ‘em up, but it’s dated — 1989.

The port and the additions to the game are excellent - it looks and plays great. Online play is a blast, especially if you have a friend that also remembers Hammer pants and the first George Bush.

5 Stars Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1989 Classic Arcade
I remember this game I was just playin the trial on my xbox a few weeks back

its to bad they dont yet have it / offer it as a single game to purchase or part of a classic combo

they should make one like that

There is only one flaw about this deal I dont like and thats paying or trading points for a game that is downloaded

and I would have said that about any downloaded game cause in most cases its hardly ever worth it when you have to download it

This game - and im talking from the nintendo one they had this is the same one so im just sayin…this was one of the best games out for nintendo I liked it alot as a kid I wonder if they will bring back 2 and 3 and maybe the rest of the nintendo classic games

Checking prices here off amazon if you still have a nintendo that works you can get this game and not the download for almost the same price right now as of 9-20-09 there are some good deals on some used ones at ebay

I wouldnt trust a download for many reasons but I guess its ok if you really want to play it the game is alot of fun

But if your into resale value I would have to say pick a copy up at ebay asap cause it might go up for nintendo seeing how people are wanting to play it again and what a classic it is almost as fun as zelda for nintendo was but thats just me talking

I been talking about ebay alot thats just the place I would go for a deal you can go to any~site you want

FIVE STARS in my point of view great game

5 Stars classic turtles game
this game is awesome a classic the best of the best download it on your xbox360 you wont be sorry

3 Stars Memories…
A fun port of an old favorite, however the game isn’t really worth the price and I am a lot more excited about the Turtles in Time revamp which is coming out soon. I really wish I had tried the demo before buying this, as I don’t feel the value for the price paid.

3 Stars No Quarters
I have this game for the NES, but thought $5 was not a bad deal.

Since beating the game within 30 minutes of the download, I haven’t played again. It’s a fun game, but very short (you get unlimited continues).

I think what made this game more appealing at the arcade was the fact that you had to keep feeding it quarters to beat it. When your money was on the line each life meant more. With no consequences for your actions, you place little value on your life.

A Nightmare Turns to Life
Alan Wake is a bestselling horror novelist who moved to the small town of Bright Falls, Washington after suffering from insomnia and depression. Wake is able to sleep again, but after he meets a mysterious woman, he begins to have terrible nightmares. As he puts these nightmares on paper for a new book, he soon notices that all the things that happen in his book are coming true right before his eyes.

Using cinematic effects and technology such as real-time lighting, shadows and reflections, you’ll be treated to a game that is oozing with atmosphere and able to invoke an emotional response from the player. The realistic environment features real-time weather and light changes that effect the game play for a remarkably immersive experience.

Explore an Entire Town
The town of Bright Falls is 100 square kilometers, and players will be able to roam through this incredibly detailed area any way they like, roaming the town or wandering out to the lakes, forest, satellite towns, and more. The game gives the player goals, but how he chooses to go about completing them is up to him. Clues are scattered throughout the town, and solving mysteries will require players to pay close attention to the little details.

Intense Combat
In addition to solving puzzles and exploration, the game also pushes players into serious action and combat; when night comes, creatures will take their best shots at Alan, and you’ll have to be quick with strategy as well as weapons to beat them back.

Alan Wake presents an unusual and new gaming experience that features a riveting, multi-layered story while giving the player the ability to freely roam a giant environment. It supports Dolby Digital sound and runs at a beautiful high-definition 720p.

Jackie must learn to fully command the Darkness so he can take back control of the Franchetti family, which is ruled by his uncle Paulie, a despicable man who is almost universally despised.
User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Read the comic book. put the controller down.
Mike patton. gangster hell. strange powers. even stranger controls. STILL NOT A GOOD GAME!!! How!? I had to cuddle with my virtual girlfriend in front of an old movie for TEN MINUTES till she fell asleep and I could progress in the game!!! That’s how!

3 Stars This game is fun for people who hate fun and have fun hating things.
I wanted to like this game, I really did. But I didn’t. The graphics were fine, the story was good and controls were okay and all that crap but it just wasn’t fun. Thinking about stubbing my toe on the coffee table the other day brings back fonder memories than I get from recalling this game, but like Kunta Kinte says “you don’t have to take my word for it.” Now let’s be clear, I am not advocating either your purchase or rental of this game. What you need to do is hype it up to a friend of yours who happens to be a little slow in the head. Make him buy it, then just borrow it from him. Then sell it on ebay. Once it’s all said and done you will realize that the only value this game has is whatever bidding ends at. There is no non-monetary value in this game, and even that isn’t much.

4 Stars pretty good.
Story is great as well the acting and visuals. As for replay value, its more or less.

4 Stars Play it for the story, nothing more
The Darkness is one of those kind of games where you got to appreciate having it since it feels so radically different from other FPS games. It’s got the slight linearity of games like Call of Duty and Fear yet there’s some sidequests and exploration to be found but above all, it’s completely geared towards its storytelling and atmosphere which is quite impeccable. But in a way some people might not like its pacing since it’s not action-intensive as other games and then you’ll not even be touching the controller as you stare at something (and even get an achievement for that very thing) but the shooting plus controlling the Darkness is a blast. Just stay away from the multiplayer…it’s pretty bad.

Story: You play as Jackie Estacado, part of a mob family that gets a hit put out on him during his 21st birthday. While being hunted, Jackie gets ensnared by the Darkness, an evil and powerful spirit that allows Jackie some incredible and destructive gifts at the cost of a constant voice in his head and occasionally being manipulated and controlled. But Jackie is out for revenge anyway against Uncle Paulie, the man who called the hit, and his lackey corrupt police officer Eddie Schrote so having the Darkness as an ally is the gift and curse.

Graphics: Graphically the game looks similar to the Chronicles of Riddick with some incredibly realistic and moody lighting and some great art design such as one place you go to during the second act and New York City which for once FEELS like New York City rather than a bunch of buildings that look like its skyline. Character models as well look like actual people however the lip movements are incredibly off and half the time I don’t even the see the lips actually moving. The game does look great and is quite memorable because of its unique look though if you were to compare it to say Modern Warfare or other games, it looks good.

Sound/Music: What makes the storytelling work is the voice acting which is, quite simply, phenomenally. From Jackie to his girlfriend Jenny to even minor characters you meet along the way (gotta love the dude who sings part of his sentences) and even Mike Patton from the old Faith No More band does an incredibly raspy voice for the Darkness who will be a constant presence in your ear. As far as the music, it’s not as prominent but it’s there but the ambience is from the chatter and train rumblings of the subway to the moody place you’ll go to at times, game also has a great ear.

Gameplay: For the most part it’s kind of basic. You get weapons which you select by left and right on the D-pad but the fun part is using the Darkness powers. There’s 4: the creeping dark, a slithering snake you control (rather horribly I might add) to launch sneak attacks on foes, a tail-like move that’ll impale enemies or move objects blocking your path, the Darkness guns and the destructive Black Hole which sucks in nearby enemies. They’re all fun to use even with Black Hole becoming your trump card but sneaking up on people and biting their faces off never gets old. There’s also a slight RPG element where you consume people’s hearts (I like when the 2 heads try to fight for it, left never wins) and that’ll level up your darkness powers to of course make you more awesome.

Another part of your gift is the ability to summon darklings, little minions you can use to wreck havoc on your foes. From the melee-loving berserker, mini-gun toting gunner, the kamikaze and one who specifically targets lights out and zaps your foes. Speaking of lights, you’ll want to shoot them out since they help your powers a lot better and there’s even times where you can’t take out your powers unless you shoot the lights. This however can make it tedious to always aim for lightbulbs. Another slight flaw I noticed is that Jackie walks.way.too.slow and trying to get close to an enemy to do the awesome execution move and yet he walks like he’s got a limp or something. Also at times I couldn’t figure out where I was supposed to actually go though at least there’s a helpful menu that tells you but more often than not, I’m walking back and forth going “where am I supposed to go anyway?”

Oh, and if you’re into boosting, I’d do it with the Darkness and move on since how do I put this…the multiplayer sucks. The lag and just the general boringness of it all, this is clearly a multiplayer that was added on because developers were afraid people would just rent it, beat it and sell it to Gamestop or something. And wouldn’t you know it, there’s quite a few achievements in multiplayer for a game with a diminishing community by the day so go you.

As a single player game, the Darkness is quite an underrated game with the occasional nitpick but for those into FPS games that are more or less entirely story driven like Half-Life 2 will find some fun here. But longevity, well, that multiplayer still sucks so I’d maybe rent.

4 Stars Kids loved the game, I loved the price!
Video games and kids; an expensive mix. This game was less than half the store price. My son loves it and I saved money. No brainer.

4 Stars If you liked the movie you’ll love the game
Unlike most movie based games, this one you play through episodes of the Bolt TV show that is briefly shown in the movie. Instead of interactively reliving the movie like most movie based games. The Bolt levels are fun and full of over the top bolt combat. The Penny based levels are stealthy and have fun puzzles to solve. The kids will love it, I thought it was really fun and am waiting for the kids to be done with it so I can play.

5 Stars My little brother loves it!
I bought this for my little brother for Christmas. He’s still playing it. DEFINITELY a good buy! At least if your kid and/or little sibling really liked the movie…
